Both of the two Brussels Pro League clubs, Union Saint-Gilloise and RSC Anderlecht, made it through their weekend fixtures without defeat. With both sides playing on Sunday, Union beat Royal Antwerp 2-0 and Anderlecht held current champions Club Brugge to a 1-1 draw.
At 18:30, Union Saint-Gilloise hosted Royal Antwerp, hoping to secure a win and widen the gap between them and the Flemish side, who were an uncomfortable three points behind and sitting third in the League.
The Brussels side duly delivered thanks to a star performance by their captain Teddy Teuma, who bagged a goal and an assist.
Dante Vanzeir put Union ahead in the 34th minute after a pass from Teuma, who himself later converted a penalty in the 76th minute to seal the game at 2-0.
This result puts them on 45 points and firmly in second place, six ahead of Antwerp and seven behind strong leaders and this season's favourites Genk.

Their local rivals Anderlecht travelled away to Club Brugge for their first match after a tumultuous week that saw the club's chairman Wouter Vandenhaute step down from his executive role under pressure from various supporter groups.
Nonetheless, Anderlecht came away with a draw, despite current league champions Club Brugge dominating play. Casper Nielsen put the Flemish side ahead in the 69th minute but Anderlecht drew level again thanks to an own goal from Brugge defender Brandon Mechele.
As a result, Anderlecht stays in 12th place with 24 points – seven points clear of the relegation zone and six behind the European play-off spots.
