On Monday, Brussels MPs from the French-speaking liberal party MR called for the creation of "night mayors" in the region, similar to those in other European capitals. Their mission would be to represent and develop Brussels' nightlife, all while resolving conflicts such as the one that led to the closure of the Fuse nightclub.

Anne-Charlotte d'Ursel and David Weytsman have tabled a motion in the Brussels Parliament, which would not only establish this position in the region but also "reconcile the demands of a major international city" in developing the city's burgeoning nightlife.

However, the proposed position will also look to "maintain the right to peace and quiet and continue the battle against noise and nighttime disturbances." This should reduce neighbourhood disputes between venues and residents living nearby, such as the aforementioned closure of the techno club Fuse.

The MPs argue that this recent episode “illustrates the need for a real Brussels nightlife policy to create more dynamic, safer, more inclusive and more accessible environments."

Furthermore, their proposal would allow for such conflicts to be resolved by collaboration between authorities, residents and the establishments themselves before a complaint can be filed.
