The 15th edition of the 'Weekend without alcohol behind the wheel' started on Friday 13 January 2023 at 18:00 and ran until Monday 16 January 2023 at 06:00. During the initiative, police checked nearly 48,000 drivers; 1.62% exceeded the permitted limit.
Though not an obvious cause for celebration, this is a notable decrease compared to the edition during the same period last year, where 2.29% of the drivers checked were in the offence.
162 drivers controlled were under the influence of alcohol and consequently had their driving licences revoked.
By contrast, the number of licences revoked for driving under the influence of drugs did increase slightly – From 101 in January 2022 to 119 in January 2023.
