Flanders registers 28% increase in public charging points in a single year

At the end of 2022, Flanders had some 7,626 public charging points, an increase of 28% in one year, according to figures published on Wednesday by Statistiek Vlaanderen.

These included 526 fast charge points, which can charge cars in half an hour, and 276 ultra-fast ones, which can charge the average vehicle in 10 minutes.

Each Flemish municipality has at least one public charging point.

Ghent leads the pack with 705 public charging points at the end of last year, followed by Antwerp (580). Mechelen, Brugge, Leuven, Hasselt, Zaventem, Kortrijk, Aalst and Ostend also had more than 100 on their territory at the end of 2022.

According to Statistiek Vlaanderen, significant differences exist between the various regions of the country.

At the end of 2021, the last year for which a complete set of comparable data is available, Flanders had 5,937 public charging points, while there were 648 in Brussels and 577 in Wallonia.
