The Brussels Fire Brigade has put out a cellar fire in the municipality of Molenbeek on Thursday. While no injuries or major damage has been reported, the cellar where it started has been completely destroyed.
Firefighters were called to the three-storey building on Rue de Birmingham at around 12:27 after a fire broke out in the cellar. Once the inhabitants had evacuated the premises, firefighters were confronted by heavy smoke.
They managed to put out the fire without the smoke ruining the building's apartments.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Sibelga, the Brussels gas provider, has taken the precautionary measure of cutting off all electric connections.
