Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden is making €65,000 available to provide free transportation to polling stations for people with disabilities. In addition, the FPS Home Affairs is working to help blind and visually impaired people vote independently.
The subsidies which will be made free will go to associations specialising in transporting people with disabilities, which will organise such transport on election day in 2024.

To this end, the administration is working with associations representing people with disabilities. The aim is that thanks to a braille matrix placed on the ballot paper, they will be able to cast their votes independently on paper.

"Voting is a foundation of our democracy," Minister Verlinden said. "We must therefore make every effort to ensure that everyone who has the right to vote can exercise it effectively. With a number of initiatives, we want to make voting more accessible for people with disabilities."
