The general well-being of Belgian society has been deemed unsustainable by the Federal Planning Bureau. Their recent report cited the declining welfare of Belgium's youth, in particular since the pandemic.
As a way of ensuring the development of Belgian society for future generations, the Federal Planning Bureau calculates a sustainability report based on 51 indicators; Belgium is currently meeting less than half.
Their key findings revealed that the pandemic had the biggest effect on the general well-being of Belgian adults, which had declined by an average of 9.5% since the outbreak of Covid-19.

In particular, those yet to celebrate their 30th birthday seem to have been the hardest hit, as their well-being is said to have deteriorated by 15.9%.
According to the Federal Planning Bureau, this could bode badly for Belgium's social and economic development, as they represent the country's most important workforce.
As a result, the Bureau called for more to be done to improve the well-being of 18 to 24-year-olds, who they believe hold the keys to the future of the Belgian economy, already under pressure due to the consecutive crises that have beset the country.
