A woman's body which was found last month in a suitcase in the basement of an apartment building in Antwerp has been formally identified as belonging to Li-Ling, a 50-year-old Chinese sex worker otherwise known as 'Linda' who had previously worked as a call girl in Barcelona.
Li-Ling's remains were found on 27 January on Bisschoppenhof Avenue in Deurne, the second largest district in Antwerp, after local residents spotted the suitcase in the apartment block's underground storage room.
It is believed that Li-Ling was murdered in her apartment, which was located on the building's fourth floor: Belgian investigators found traces of blood on her apartment's wooden floor; moreover, her entire apartment had been recently repainted, ostensibly to conceal evidence of the murder.

According to De Standaard, Li-Ling was an active member of the so-called 'Alhambra' Chinese prostitution ring, whose European headquarters appear to have been located in Brussels. On Tuesday, the Belgian authorities arrested 27 people for suspected involvement in the organisation, and seized €1.5 million in alleged illicit cash.
The Gazet van Antwerpen has since reported that Federal Judicial Police (Federale Gerechtelijke Politie, FGP) investigators have not yet found Li-Ling's killer, although they are "getting closer to unravelling the mystery".
