A message claiming that Anne Frank did not write her own diary was projected onto her house in Amsterdam. The incident, which was posted on far-right American group chats, is now being investigated by Dutch authorities.
The inscription "Anne Frank invited biros" was temporarily projected by laser onto the Anne Frank House, and refers to an antisemitic conspiracy theory.
Translation of tweet: "Reprehensible. There is no place for anti-Semitism in our country; we can never and should never accept this."
In an interview with the Reformatorisch Dagblad, historian Willem Wagenaar explained that the theory derives from a German police report, which discovered loose pages written with a ballpoint pen.
As a result, the theory falsely claims that Frank could not have been the diary's author, as biros did not become popular in Europe until after World War II. These notes were later proven to be the work of a researcher who conducted a graphological study on the diary in 1960.
However, this has not stopped antisemites from continuing to spread the erroneous theory, with Wagenaar concluding that "by questioning the diary's authenticity, you are doubting the existence of the Holocaust."
