A 25-year-old goalkeeper died on Saturday during a match in Sint-Eloois-Winkel in West Flanders.
The team of Winkel Sport B was playing against Westrozebeke in the second provincial division of West Brabant on Saturday evening.
At the start of the second half, Westrozebeke was awarded a penalty. Winkel Sport's goalkeeper intercepted the ball, but then collapsed.
The match was immediately stopped and paramedics tried for half an hour to revive the goalkeeper on the pitch.
The young man was then taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead there. The cause of his death has not yet been established, and an autopsy will be carried out on Monday.
