Brussels-Midi police seized 1,800 bundles of cocaine, 500 grammes of block cocaine, 300 grammes of marijuana and the sum of €1,200 during a search in Saint-Gilles on 8 February, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office said on Friday. Two suspects were arrested.

The bust was made after police surveillance was set up in Jacques Franck Square in Saint-Gilles. Several area residents had said they generally felt unsafe, due to drug trafficking in the area.

“The narcotics section of the Brussels-Midi police zone therefore drew up an action plan with a view to arresting the sellers active in this neighbourhood,” local police reported. “During this observation, the sale of narcotics was observed. This led to the arrest of an individual in flagrante delicto.”

“Cocaine and marijuana were also found in a bag near the vendor. A second individual was intercepted at the scene on suspicion of collecting the money from the drug sales,” the police said.

Police were finally able to locate an apartment used as a production site.
