The University of Antwerp reinstated to the top 10 - in 10th place - in the classification of the best new universities in the world. This is according the annual 2016 classification by the British organisation QS - Quacquarelli Symonds.

This classification ranks university establishments which are under 50 years old.

The University of Antwerp was 13th in the classification in 2015, 14th in 2014 and 10th in 2013. The University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, in 7th place, is the best graded amongst the European institutions. While the University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, still tops the leader board.

Asian institutions occupy the first six places, whilst six establishments in the top ten universities all focus on training in sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Australia is the most represented country in this classification, with its new universities having ten of the 50 places.

Spain is the best represented in Europe with five universities in the list. The Autonoma de Barcelona University is the 9th best new university in the world and the second in Europe.
