Based on 2016 figures, 14,867 students were benefiting from Social Integration Income (known as RIS), according to figures from the FPS Social Integration. La Dernière Heure published these on Friday. This is more than double to that seen with 2006 figures, when 7,239 students were in this situation.
Students thus currently represent 15% of the total number of Belgian recipients of RIS.
The federal Minister for Social Integration, Willy Borsus, confirmed his concern about this phenomenon, and henceforth intends to draw up proposals for the Federation of CPASs (the Federation of Public Centres for Social Assistance).
