Brussels Expo and EnergyVision on Monday opened an installation numbering more than 11,000 solar panels installed on the roofs of Brussels Expo.
More than 4.7 Mega Watt peak (MWp) of panels have been installed atop the halls and palaces of Brussels Expo, with the possibility of using other roofs in a later stage. The construction of the solar installation was completed in less than four weeks by EnergyVision – a company that provides renewable energy solutions based in Ghent and Brussels.
The company's CEO Maarten Michielssens explains that any energy not used by Brussels Expo will be redirected to recharging stations located elsewhere in the city.

“With these solar panels, we continue to modernise Brussels Expo and our infrastructure. It is also about the development of the Belgian and Brussels economy while investing in sustainable energy,” said Mayor of Brussels Philippe Close.
The over 11,000 photovoltaic panels allow the City of Brussels to implement its Climate Plan and to work towards a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, as well as help get municipal buildings carbon neutral by 2040.
