A Belgian collector spent 10,000 euros on the hat pop legend Michael Jackson wore in the “Smooth Criminal” video. They bought it at auction. Dutch auction house Catawiki spoke about the sale on Saturday.
The star wore the hat, a white Fedora, during the recording of the video 30 years ago. The ‘King of Pop’ had several versions of the hat at the time. Once the video was finished, he gave it to his former manager and signed it “Love Michael Jackson”. It was estimated at 10,000 to 13,000 euros.
The Dutch auction house has said people from all over the world were interested in the hat. It added that the value of the music legend’s belongings has increased since his sudden death in 2009. “Collectors are spending extravagant amounts on clothes Michael Jackson once wore”, it said.
