In the municipality of Sars-la-Buissière in the province of Hainaut, demolition works have started on one of the homes of Belgian serial killer Marc Dutroux – more than 26 years after the discovery of the bodies of two of his victims the garden.

After consultation with the families of the victims who were found in that garden (Julie and Mélissa), it was decided not to erect a memorial for the victims and demolish the house instead.

"We are going to give this site the serenity it deserves," Lucien Bauduin, the mayor of Lobbes told RTBF. "After more than 25 years, many people's wishes will be granted and the house will be demolished. We were in contact with the parents of the victims last week. It is the end of a sad and heavy chapter for this area."
