An armed man caused panic on a TEC bus on Tuesday evening in the town of Tubize in the province of Walloon Brabant, the local prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday. A drunk man reportedly produced a pistol at around 19:30 while he was on a bus between Braine-L’Alleud and Tubize.
The individual was later arrested by Tubize police at the final stop of the bus. The weapon later turned out to be a toy airsoft pistol. The 40-year-old suspect, who is well known to the police, was arrested and returned to his home in Braine-L’Alleud.
Fake weapons are frequently to carry out crimes in Belgium. In February, two masked teenagers held up an Antwerp branch of low-cost German supermarket Aldi. The weapon was later found to be a blank-firing pistol.
