Alexander De Croo, Sophie Wilmès, and Hadja Lahbib have been rated Brussels’ three most popular politicians in Le Soir’s annual Grand Barometer. Socialist politician Paul Magnette has dropped in popularity, now coming fifth in the ranking.
The ranking of the three politicians shows that liberal politicians remain popular in Belgium’s capital. Parties such as French-speaking Mouvement Réformateur (MR) plan to capitalise on this popularity, launching a campaign behind Wilmès in 2024 alongside Hadja Lahbib. Despite initial questions about her experience for the role, the current foreign minister has surged in popularity in the capital.
Belgium’s French-speaking Greens, Ecolo, are also doing well in the capital. This year, they are slightly up in the polls against the last round in December 2022, but their politicians rank, at maximum, from 16th place and downwards in terms of popularity. Party co-president Jean-Marc Nollet comes in 16th place, Rajae Maouane in 26th, and Georges Gilkinet at 29th.
Indeed, it appears that Belgian liberals, regardless of what part of the country they are from, appear to top the rankings in Brussels. Personalities Bart De Wever and Georges-Louis Bouchez rank joint sixth in the ranking, ahead of many of Belgium’s left-wing politicians.

Nicole De Moor, CD&V politician and current Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, ranks as the least popular politician within Brussels, with no respondents stating that they would like her to play a bigger role in Belgian politics.
