Slovenian-born cyclist Tadej Pogacar, cycling for the UAE Team Emirates, won the 107th annual Tour of Flanders cycling race on Sunday in Oudenaarde. Pogacar won the 273.4 kilometre long course, which starts in Bruges, finishing far out in front of the rest of the pack.
The Slovenian cyclist is the youngest cyclist to ever win a UCI World Tour race, winning the Tour of California at the age of 20. He later won three stages of the Vuelta a España finishing in third. The cyclist is also the first road cyclist in history to break the 6,000-point barrier in the UCI World Ranking.
Winner of the Tour of Flanders last year and in 2020, Dutchman Mathieu van der Peol finished in 2nd place, 17 seconds off the pace of Pogacar. Third place on the podium went to Dane Mads Pedersen. Belgian racer Wout van Aert missed out on the podium, finishing in fourth.

During the third hill climb of Oude Kwaremont, near the municipality of Kluisbergen, Pogacar launched a decisive attack, catching up to van der Poel and Mads Pedersen. At the top of the Peterberg hill, the last decisive challenge in the race, Pogacar built up a 14 second leasd 13 kilometres from the finish.
This is Pogacar’s 56th professional cycling victory, as well as his 10th win of this season, and his 3rd different Monument win.
