In a surprise decision, on Tuesday morning the new Twitter CEO Elon Musk decided to change the logo of the social media platform, from its iconic blue bird to an image of a yellow dog, which is also a popular internet meme.

It remains uncertain whether Elon Musk's latest decision is a late April fools joke, a temporary design, or even the company’s new permanent logo.

The new logo is a dog popular on the internet, commonly known as “Doge”. The Shiba Inu dog, really called Kabosu, has been a classic internet meme for years. Doge also became the basis of “Dogecoin”, a cryptocurrency commonly promoted by the Twitter CEO.

Musk is known to make repeated cryptic statements and direct promotions of the crypto currency, which sends its value skyrocketing. After changing the company logo to Doge, the value of Dogecoin surged by 20%.

Musk is currently facing a $258 billion lawsuit from Dogecoin investors over his Tweets and media comments about the cryptocurrency, which drove its value up more than 36,000% before it eventually crashed.

Shortly after changing the Twitter logo to Doge, the Twitter owner published screenshots of a tweet exchange from 26 March 2022, where Musk and one of his followers discussed changing the “bird logo to a doge.”

In a later humorous tweet, Musk suggests that the new Doge logo may be here to stay, with a photo depicting the iconic blue bird as just an “old photo.”
