Following a successful launch in May last year, StrEat Fest will return to Brussels' Tour & Taxis next month with the goal of doubling the number of visitors.
If your mind jumps to a line of various food trucks selling quick and simple dishes when imagining street food, think again! For StrEat Fest, Tour & Taxis will be transformed into a temple of culinary delight with various stands serving an array of flavour-packed plates from 11 to 14 May.
The four-day festival brings authentic street food from all over the world to the Belgian capital, with artisans of the Brussels street food scene presenting locals and tourists alike with new, bold flavours, proving that there's so much more to the cuisine than simplicity and speed.
Meanwhile, seasoned gastronomic chefs from the country's four corners will try their hand at the cuisine in a challenge to transform culinary dishes into affordable street food versions.
Bigger and better
Last year, the first edition of the festival attracted 9,000 visitors. For this year, the organisation wants to shift up a gear and attract up to 15,000 visitors with more chefs, and with various workshops, including pasta turning and cocktail-making. Revellers can also expect a diverse programme of concerts, DJ-sets and performances by street artists.
For the first time, the festival will be dedicated to the cuisine of a particular country.
"Street food is about the culture and the country you come from. My mother is from the Philippines, so as an ambassador I want to introduce as many people as possible to the Philippines," said chef Glen Ramaekers of Brussels restaurant 'Humphrey' who is an ambassador of the festival.
