A 53-year-old woman was killed in the Brussels commune of Etterbeek on Tuesday, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office confirmed. An investigation has been launched.
Officers of the Montgomery police were called to an incident on Rue Philippe Baucq in Etterbeek on Tuesday afternoon, spokesperson Stefan Vandevelde of the prosecutor's office said.
“Upon arrival, police forces found a lifeless body of a 53-year-old woman. The emergency services were immediately called to the scene, but they could only determine the woman’s death.”
An investigation was launched, after which witnesses were questioned and possible camera footage was examined. The woman was reportedly found by her roommate, lying on the sofa with her throat slit.
An investigating judge was requisitioned for manslaughter and stepped down at the scene in the presence of the public prosecutor,” Vandevelde continued.

According to Sudpresse and RTL Info, the ex-partner of the woman, who is in his early twenties and was recently released from prison, killed her. Both dailies reported that the woman was repeatedly subjected to abuse by her ex-partner during their relationship, with the police intervening on several occasions.
He is reportedly the main suspect, however, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office is not commenting on the case for now. “The investigation is actively continuing and in the interest of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office is not commenting further on this case.”
