The Pavillon of the ‘human passions’ in the Cinquantenaire Park, usually closed to the public, will be accessible during the month of April.

When it was unveiled in 1896, the work so shocked the people of Brussels that it had to be locked away almost as soon as it opened.

The artist collective BARRA Movement will now be temporarily installed there as part of an artistic project to revitalise the Brussels Park, and workshops and dialogues will be held throughout April with the general public.

The project is part of ‘Cinquantenaire 2030’, an initiative by Secretary of State, Thomas Dermine, to renovate and revitalise the Park and the Royal Museums in the run-up to Belgium’s 200th anniversary.

The non-profit organisation Horizon 50-200 has been created for this purpose, so that the renovated Cinquantenaire Park would represent “the linking power between heritage, science and culture in the 21st century.”

Also known as the Horta-Lambeaux Pavilion, the Pavilion can be visited on a fixed schedule until 23 April and will also open its doors during Brussels' Museums Nocturnes event on 18 May.
