The former leader of France’s far-right National Front (now National Rally) party Jean-Marie Le Pen was hospitalised on Saturday after suffering a “mild heart attack”.
“Jean-Marie Le Pen has been hospitalised in a public institution in the Paris region. His family and relatives are worried but calm,” said Le Pen’s adviser Lorrain de Saint Affrique, adding that the 94-year-old is “conscious”.
Le Pen founded the National Front (FN) in 1972. The party subsequently changed its name to the National Rally (RN) under the leadership of his daughter Marine, who came second in the 2017 and 2022 presidential election to Emmanuel Macron.
