The oldest cinema in Brussels, the Pathé Palace, will soon open its doors again following a major renovation. Situated on Boulevard Anspach in the city centre, the beautiful Art Nouveau building was designed by Paul Hammese and built in 1913. At the time, it could accommodate 2,500 people, making it the largest cinema in Brussels.
The renovation aims to give the cinema a contemporary, simple and attractive appearance, while also highlighting the architectual heritage of the building.
The building now belongs to the Brussels-Wallonia Federation which has allocated 16 million euros to renovate the building and its interior. The work has been ongoing since 2001 and will finally see its fruition with the reopening of the cinema scheduled in February. Cinema lovers will also be able to enjoy the new bar and cafeteria inside the historical building.
