Belgium's King Philippe (63) suffered three broken ribs while kitesurfing, one of his sporting pursuits. The injury is not expected to have an impact on his work schedule.

When the King and his son Prince Gabriel attended the launch of the Ariane 5 rocket in French Guiana last week, journalists noticed that he seemed to be in pain on his left side. Now, it turns out that the King had an accident while kitesurfing and suffered three broken ribs, suffered during the Easter holidays in Spain, Sudinfo reports.

Like bruised ribs, broken ribs will heal on their own but the chest pain (when moving, coughing, sneezing, or breathing) can persist for several weeks.

In 2017, the King wished the Belgian population "a pleasant summer holiday" with a YouTube video in which he kitesurfed. The following year, another film of a kitesurfing Philippe followed.
