A 4.4-magnitude earthquake briefly shook Sicily on Friday, Italian authorities said.
The quake, whose epicentre was recorded in the port city of Catania, was felt in the area at the foot of the volcano Etna in the afternoon at around 14:00.
No damage or injuries were reported, according to Italy’s civil protection department.

Italy is located in a very active seismic region so earthquakes are more frequent there.
The consequences can sometimes be much more serious, as in the 2009 and 2016 earthquakes in central Italy, which each killed about 300 people.
