A fatal accident led to the closure of the E40 motorway between Brussels and Ghent on Tuesday morning. The motorway has been reopened but remains heavily disrupted with lengthy traffic jams.
The accident occurred after a male driver crashed his car in the back of a truck at high speed on the motorway, near the Flemish municipality of Ternat. The Federal Police has since confirmed that the victim, born in 2001, died.
The roadway had originally been blocked as a result of the accident but has since been reopened, the Flemish Traffic Centre has since announced. However, they have advised motorists to avoid the area, given the lengthy queues formed on Brussels' outer ring road.
