A car was rescued from the canal on Wednesday morning in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean.
The driver was able to fish themselves out and flee the scene. The car has since been removed from the water by the Brussels Fire Brigade.
The accident occurred at around 08:30 on Quai des Charbonnages in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean behind Place Sainte-Catherine in the city centre.
For an unclear reason, the driver swerved off road, drove through the railing and ending up in the canal.
The fire brigade went to the scene with diving teams, but the driver was reportedly able to climb out of the water.
Once they were on dry land, the driver ran away, the Brussels Fire Brigade reported.
More information about the driver's whereabouts is not yet known.
The vehicle, which was heavily damaged as a result of the crash, has since been pulled out of the canal and towed away.
