Accounts that have been inactive for years will be removed from Twitter, Elon Musk said on Monday in his latest announcement aimed at boosting the platform.

“We’re purging accounts that have had no activity at all for several years, so you will probably see follower count drop,” the socialmedia platform’s boss warned in a tweet.

“We’re trying hard to make your feed as compelling as possible (maximize unregretted user minutes). How is it now vs 6 months ago?” he asked in a poll on Sunday.

About 46% of the 1.5 million voters answered “better,” and 38% “worse.”

Elon Musk has repeatedly referred in recent months to his cryptic goal of maximizing the amount of time spent (on the platform) with no regrets.

When brands choose where to advertise, they look at a variety of metrics, including the number of daily (or at least monthly) active users, average time spent on the platform, or the number of interactions with content, such as comments and likes.

'Time spent with no regrets' “isn’t like the total number of users or anything. It’s just the total number of minutes of unapologetic use,” the executive detailed at a conference for advertising professionals in Miami, Florida, last month.

Musk did not indicate how to measure this metric.

According to research firm Insider Intelligence, Twitter’s revenue will fall 28% this year because “advertisers don’t trust Musk.”

In an interview with the BBC, Musk assured, on the contrary, that the company was seeing advertisers return and was “pretty much breaking even.”
