The passenger of the car involved in a police car chase across Schaerbeek on Tuesday had been wanted for murder in Germany, Brussels' Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Wednesday.
The pursuit occurred after the car with a German licence plate fled a routine police check. Gunshots were then fired between both vehicles, before the chase came to an end on Place de la Patrie.
The driver of the car was admitted to hospital as his life was believed to be in danger, but has now made a full recovery. The passenger was revealed to be a suspect in a German murder case, and both men have since been arrested by Belgian authorities.
Meanwhile, another investigation has now been launched into the police officers who intervened and shot the assailant.
