A plate by Albert Uderzo for the album ‘Asterix in Hispania’ will be auctioned in Paris on 18 June, the Daniel Maghen Gallery announced on Wednesday.
The 18 June auctions, dedicated to comics, are also an opportunity to buy Goldorak and Astroboy drawings by Go Nagai and Osamu Tezuka respectively. These two colour illustrations are estimated at €40,000 to €50,000 each.
Uderzo’s Indian ink plate, estimated at €130,000 to €150,000, is No. 7 in the 1969 album. It shows Asterix and Obelix meeting young Pepe, an Iberian child whom the Romans have kidnapped and taken to Armorica, near the irreducible Gallic village.
It is dedicated by the author to a journalist, Bernard Delattre, on the occasion of his birthday.
The record for a drawing by Uderzo is the cover illustration for the album 'Le Tour de Gaule,'('Asterix and the Banquet') in gouache and coloured inks, sold in 2017 for €1.449 million, including fees.
