In recent years, several galleries have opened in the neighbourhood around Place Stéphanie in Brussels. You might spend a Saturday afternoon wandering around this emerging art district.
The gallery Nosbaum Reding occupies a beautiful converted mansion at Rue de la Concorde 60 that has kept its old wooden door frames. The art is displayed in a bright ground floor space and a basement reached by a narrow winding staircase.
Turn right when you leave the gallery. Look out for Baronian. This established gallery has a small space at Rue de la Concorde 33 and a larger gallery in the corner house opposite that spreads across the ground floor and out into a hidden back garden. It includes a dark room for screening artist’s films and videos.
When you leave Baronian, turn left along Rue Isidore Verheyen. The street is named after a 19th-century Impressionist artist who had his studio on the top floor of the white house at number 15.
