Stabbing at Heysel polling station for Turkish elections

A brawl broke out at a polling station for Belgian Turks near the Heysel metro station on Wednesday evening, with one person being stabbed and taken to hospital.

Police confirmed that they were called to a fight at around 21:00 between a group of supporters of Turkey's current president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and a group of Kurdish activists.

The victim reportedly received a stab wound to the face and had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Their life is not said to be in danger.

The brawl is an indication of the tension surrounding the elections, with a winner due to be decided on Sunday. Erdoğan is up against his Kemalist opponent Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, with most polls putting the incumbent president ahead.
