Despite a successful edition in January this year, there will be no physical European Motor Show Brussels in 2024, organisers announced on Friday.

From 14–22 January this year, some 270,000 people visited the Brussels Expo for the special anniversary edition of the Brussels Motor Show, which the organisers stated was "still undoubtedly the most popular indoor event in Belgium." But this week, it was announced a physical Motor Show will not take place next year.

"Our aim is always to provide a quality and representative experience. As the conditions for this are no longer in place, the Board of Directors has decided not to continue the process for 2024," Febiac, the Belgian Federation of Cars and Two-wheeled Vehicles, wrote in a statement.

The Febiac spokesperson indicated that "the 95% market representativeness the salon had this year would no longer be achieved". It therefore decided not to hold a physical salon next year. In other words, there would be too few car brands present at the show.

This is reportedly the result of the cancellation of heavyweight D'Ieteren, the importer of the German Volkswagen group's brands which is said to have declined to participate in a 2024 salon. A number of other brands are also said to have hesitated subsequently.

Several other brands already stopped participating in this year's salon with a large stand of their own, including Mercedes, Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover. They have also confirmed that they would not participate in the next edition either. Whether there will be another Motor Show in 2025 is still unclear.

Febiac stressed that this decision will not have any impact on the rest of the federation's operation, which is divided into four core tasks: data, knowledge, communication and lobbying for the industry.
