La Libre Belgique reports on Tuesday that the degree certificate presented by the Congolese opposition leader, Félix Tshisekedi, as part of the registration of his candidacy for the presidential election is invalid. The stated institute has confirmed that it was not responsible for the degree for which information was provided.
Rumours of “forged qualifications” for Félix Tshisekedi had been circulating for months, but the daily publication, which shows a copy of the “marketing degree” for Tshisekedi, asserted on Tuesday that it has confirmation of the forgery, having contacted the ICC, the Institute of Commercial Careers.
The issue may be of significance, since it could by its nature pose a risk to the presidential candidate of his candidacy being invalidated. La Libre Belgique observes that at the same time talks are in process between the FCC, the platform which supports the so-called “heir apparent” to the outgoing President, Joseph Kabila and Cach that of Vital Kamerhe and Félix Tshisekedi.
The document registered by Tshisekedi with CÉNI, the National Independent Electoral Committee, attests to his having obtained a “pass” grade for a “degree in marketing and communication” dating back to the academic year 1990-1991 at the Institute of Commercial Careers (“ICC”). The ICC is a higher education institution within the remit of the City of Brussels.
Yet, according to both the institution and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation administration, the document was not issued by the ICC administrative department, the institution stating having not been responsible for such a degree. Moreover, there is no trace of this certificate at the ICC.
