Belgium is set to become one of the European countries with the most high-speed chargers for electric cars, with 15 companies currently building their own fast charging stations, De Tijd reports.
Various companies are attempting to break into the Belgian market for fast car chargers due to the recent rise of electric car use in the country. A recent study showed that these vehicles accounted for a third of all new Belgian car sales last year.
Their growing popularity has pushed the Flemish government to ensure that there be at least one fast-charging station every 25 kilometres on Flanders' main roads. In comparison, European roadways now only have one charger per 80 kilometres.

Belgium is also looking to become the European country with the fastest electric car charger, especially the Antwerp start-up Sparki. The company launched its first fast charging station after a €15 million investment from the Federal Government. It plans to have 200 charging stations before the end of the year, a figure which it hopes to triple by 2026.
Sparki's long-term aim is to offer motorists a charge of 300 kilowatts, which is up to 30 times as powerful as an average charging station. This could result in electric cars being able to drive for an additional 300 kilometres after only an eight-minute charge, easing motorists’ fears about being stranded on the road with an empty battery.
