The temporary two-way cycle path introduced at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic will be maintained, meaning that Rue de la Loi will permanently go from four to three lanes for cars. A public inquiry has been opened and will run until 6 July.
The 850-metre-long cycle paths will be constructed in two directions along part of Rue de la Loi, more specifically between Avenue des Arts and Boulevard Charlemagne.
In May 2020, one of the four Rue de la Loi car lanes was removed to make way for a two-way cycle path on the busy traffic axis. For some time, it had been these temporary 'Covid-19 cycle paths' that would be made permanent.

The arrangement – which was supposed to be temporary at the time – was put in place to allow people to socially distance, but mainly came to be due to the insufficient infrastructure for the rapid increase in cyclists during lockdown.
In the longer term, the regional authorities are planning a more thorough reconstruction of the entire Rue de la Loi and will also give the street's northern side a proper cycle path.
