Nine Belgian sparkling wines have won awards at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, ranking thousands of wines from all across the globe.

The third session of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles – an international, professional competition that this time specifically focussed on the best sparkling wines produced around the world – took place last week in Campania, Italy.

The Belgian representatives came away with nine medals, three of them gold, with the results published on Friday.

Despite its name, the Mondial de Bruxelles has been held in different countries for many years. The session devoted to white and red wines was held in May in Porêc, Croatia, and the session devoted to rosé wines in Montpellier. At these first two sessions, three and two Belgian wines won awards, respectively.

A final session will focus on sweet and “fortified” wines, such as Port. It will be held in September.
