A young Ukrainian refugee who has been living in Brussels for a year won €500,000 with a lottery scratch ticket, the National Lottery announced on Monday.
The identities of lottery winners are not usually disclosed but the National Lottery chose to confirm that the young Ukrainian man, who has been staying in Brussels for over a year, bought the winning ticket for €5 at a service station.
After conferring with the ticket holder, the National Lottery can reveal that the winner intends to spend the amount "above all to do something for his compatriots and the reconstruction of his country."
But not before "organising a party here in Belgium or the family and friends who have cared for him and helped him to integrate into our country."
