Wallonia’s Minister in charge of Animal Welfare, Carlo Di Antonio, and the l’Union Wallonne pour la Protection Animale (UWPA - Walloon Animal Protection Union) launched a new animal-adoption gateway on Friday. The new site, J’adopte.be was presented in Maisières, Mons. Its aim is to enhance the adoption of animals from shelters. Over 90 such institutions provide shelter, care and, protection daily for animals of all types, ages and characteristics in Wallonia.
J’adopte.be is expected to be accessed by shelters as well as private individuals wishing to put their animals up for adoption. It aims to foster compliance with the relevant regulations regarding the sale of animals on the Internet and on social networks. Since 1 June 2017, advertising any type of animal can only be done in a specialised magazine or on a specialised Internet site.
Any domestic animal authorized in Wallonia may be put up for adoption on the new platform, including dogs, cats, rodents, horses and other farm animals. All advertisements will be verified and must conform to regulations on identification, registration, traceability and sterilisation.
Through the platform, the public will have access to qualitative advertisements along with information on adopting and keeping animals.
