A washing machine is believed to have burned down a house in Flobecq on Friday evening, the Walloon emergency services said on Saturday.
"According to the owners, a washing machine was running when they left. An electrical problem is probably at the origin of the disaster," said one of the firefighters who put out the fire.
The firefighter added that by the time his team arrived at the scene on the rue du Lieutenant Cotton at 20:30 on Friday, the roof and first floor of the house had completely burst into flames. No people were present at the time, although the emergency services were forced to rescue several dogs.
Approximately two-thirds of the house was ultimately destroyed by the fire. The owners, a couple in their mid-thirties, have since been relocated to be another accommodation.
