A man was arrested on Saturday night after taking a hunting rifle into his home in Sart-lez-Spa, in the province of Liège, for an as yet undetermined reason, the Liège public prosecutor's office said on Sunday morning.
When police arrived at the home of the individual, who is reportedly a hunter by trade, he fled. He was finally apprehended at around 02:30 in the woods of the Bérinzenne state park, just south of Spa, after a manhunt involving a helicopter.
"The arrest took place without the slightest difficulty. The man was carrying weapons at the time of the operation but offered no resistance. Hearings are underway to try and understand what happened," local prosecutor Gilles de Villers Grand Champs told Belga News Agency.
