Dams in Eupen, Gileppe, and Ry de Rome in southern Belgium are making preparations for the forecasted heavy rains, SPW Mobility and Infrastructure told Belga.
The dams, located in the provinces of Liège and Namur, need “to be able to accommodate potential surpluses” of water, according to Sarah Pierre, spokesperson for the public service of Wallonia. Technicians are working to make sure water finds its way back towards rivers.
The Celex expertise unit has already met several times to discuss how to avoid any incidents as a result of heavy rains.
The situation is being closely monitored by regional authorities, while several rivers were placed on a pre-flood alert on Monday.
