Hidden Belgium: One of the best hiking routes in Belgium

Marked out by volunteers in 1966, the GR 57 long-distance hiking trail runs through Wallonia for 265 km. Starting in Liege, it penetrates deep into the Ardennes, following the valley of the River Ourthe.

It’s one of the best hiking routes in Belgium with dramatic landscapes and interesting towns along the way including Durbuy and Houffalize. It also skirts around the stunning Nisramont Dam before heading on south into Luxembourg.

The GR 57 is the ideal trail for anyone without a car as it follows the railway line between Liège and Luxembourg.

The train stops along the way in small towns such as Coo, Trois-Ponts, Vielsalm and Clervaux, so you can break up the route into short sections.
