The Anneessens metro station has been closed due to civil unrest linked to the police killing of a 17-year-old in France. The Brussels Fire Brigade has described the situation as "extremely tense."

Brussels public transport operator STIB has confirmed that buses have been halted in the neighbourhood with residents protesting the recent death of Naël in the French city of Nanterre.

The 17-year-old was shot in the chest at point-blank range by an officer during a traffic stop on Tuesday. The policeman was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

This sparked mass riots across France which seemingly have since spread to Brussels, with an incident occurring in the neighbourhood of Anneessens. Local police have since stated that 10 people were arrested after throwing paving stones at officers.
