A fire at an industrial farm in Merksplas, Antwerp Province, has claimed the lives of approximately 40,000 chickens, local police said.
Responding to the alarm on Saturday afternoon, emergency services promptly attended the scene.
Local residents were advised to seal their homes by shutting doors and windows while firefighters worked to put out the fire.
The fire’s origin remains under investigation.
While no human injuries were reported, one individual was hospitalized as a precaution following smoke inhalation.
