Police have ordered rail traffic around the Brussels municipality of Jette to be halted after several suspicious packages, out which at least one has been confirmed to contain explosives, were found by the train tracks.
A police unit of the Brussels West police zone found a small plastic bag containing a small amount of explosives by the train tracks of Jette's Avenue de l'Exposition.
"The police have asked us to interrupt train traffic," SNCB spokesperson Dimitri Temmerman told Bruzz.
All rail traffic between Asse and Jette and between Jette and Denderleeuw has been suspended, with delays expected to affect the larger rail network.
"We immediately set up a security zone and notified DOVO," Johan Berckmans, spokesperson for the Brussels West police told De Morgen, referring to the explosives units.
“They have established that the bag contained a small amount of explosives and are now going to destroy them with a controlled explosion. Once that has happened, our teams will further investigate," he added.
