Police have detained an unidentified man after a small bag of explosives was found by the train tracks near a Brussels municipality on Thursday.
The suspect, already in custody, will be questioned in the course of the evening.
The amount of explosives found in the bag was too small to blow up a train, Denis Goeman, spokesperson for the Brussels prosecutor's office told RTBF.
The man does not fit the profile of a terrorist, but rather that of an "isolated chemist," Geoman told the French-language news site.
The investigation, still ongoing, has determined that the explosives contained in the small bag found by police were gunpowder and TATP.
Following the discovery of the bag, rail traffic around Jette, where the bag of explosives was found, was halted and have been temporarily replaced by shuttles.
