Flow, Brussels’ only open-air swimming pool, closed its doors on Friday after tests showed that water quality had fallen below acceptable levels.
In the interest of safety, the organisation closed gates just two days after its grand opening on Wednesday. Flow made the decision in consultation with Brulabo, the laboratory responsible for conducting the water quality tests.
The open-air swimming pool on the Anderlecht canals uses a new biological water treatment system, which is not yet fully developed. “We don’t want to take any risk and have decided, together with the laboratory, to close Flow to the public today and during the weekend,” explained Paul Steinbrück, Flow founder.

The pool will be closed until Sunday. On Monday, Brulabo will carry out a second round of tests. Only then will a decision be made on the reopening of the outdoor swimming pool during the summer months.
Visitors who bathed in the pool in recent days are not at risk, Steinbrück insisted.
